BEN RECTOR Brand New LYRICS

BEN RECTOR Brand New LYRICS
album: "Brand New" (2015)

Brand New

I feel like new sunglasses, like a brand new pair of jeans
I feel like taking chances, I feel a lot like seventy

I feel like windows rolled down, new city, streets and cabs
I feel like anything can happen, laughing,
You take me right back, when we were kids
Never thought I'd feel like this

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new
Brand new

I feel like a young John Cusack, like making big mistakes
I feel like for the first time in a long time I am not afraid
I feel like a kid, never thought it'd feel like this

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new

Time will always try to make us
You remind me what I used to know

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new

Brand new, yeah, yeah, yeah
And I feel brand new
I feel brand new
I feel brand new

Paris

I haven't seen her
For a month or so
Young love feels like finding buried gold

We meet in Paris
Fly straight through the night
And my heart feels just like new sunglasses in the taxi ride

I remember who we are
When we're being young and dumb
Paris feels like falling back in love
Back in love

Now were walking
Talking hand in hand, yeah
Nervous at the bakery, not speaking French
And she is smiling, she is beautiful
And I feel sixteen while we, we are making love
Oh yeah

I remember who we are
When we're being young and dumb
Paris feels like falling back in love

I remember who we are
When we're being young and dumb
Paris feels like falling back in love
Falling back in love, yeah

I haven't seen her
For a month or so
Young love feels like finding buried gold

The Men That Drive Me Places

Howard drives a minivan with the cruise ships from Ft. Lauderdale
And it's been that way since 1994
Does his business on a flip phone with the most obnoxious ringtone
I didn't ask but I can tell he's from New York
And he spoke proudly of his daughter and that this fall she'd be in college
And that he always wished he'd gotten his degree
You can tell he came from nothing, built a future out of hustling
And somehow I'm the one you people pay to see

Oh isn't that just the way it goes
You're dealt a good hand and you get celebrated
Oh how am I the only one who knows
I'm half the man of the men who drive me places

Danny showed up early fifteen minutes till five thirty
Making sure that I'd be on my morning flight
He said he'd love to fix computers, but that he can't until he's fluent
So he spends his driving money taking class at night
He wore a neatly ironed dress shirt and he helps his kids with homework
And deep inside I couldn't help but ask myself
Why that at night I'm up on stage, everybody knows my name
While Danny's early picking up somebody else

Oh isn't that just the way it goes
You're dealt a good hand and you get celebrated
Oh how am I the only one who knows
I'm half the man of the men that drive me places

And now everything's not given, I work hard to make my living
But I'll give credit where I think credits due
Maybe you got dealt a good hand
Maybe you play it the best that you can
But I don't know how far you'd walk without those cards
In Howard and Danny's working shoes

But that's just the way it goes
You're dealt a good hand and you get celebrated
Oh how am I the only one who knows
I'm half the man of the men that drive me places

Note To Self

Note to self: clean the living room,
Do the things you don’t want to do,
Maybe fold that week old pile of clothes
Note to self: get some exercise
Feels bad and you have to try
But as far as I can tell that’s how life goes

[Chorus:]
And note to self: don’t let yourself worry quite as much,
It’ll end up fine enough
It always has up until now,
Something else,
You should think of other people a little more,
You shoulda thought of that before
Cause of everything you’ve written down
This is the first note that you wrote for someone else
Note to self

Note to self: keep choosing her
Cause she is yours and wonderful
And for-ever is a long time to be sad,
And one more thing;
Call your mother back
Talk for too long it’s probably half
Of what she’d like,
But she’s the only mother that you have

[Chorus]

I don’t know how long I have to keep reminding myself
To be who I want to be and not somebody else,
I just thought by now I’d figure out the who and how I want to be
Cause I still let myself worry way too much
And it ends up fine enough
It always has and does still now,
And I still need to think of other people
Yes I’ve thought of that before
Maybe one day I’ll figure out
You don’t find peace
Until you love somebody else,
You don’t peace
Until you love somebody else
Note to self

Crazy

You ever get tired of turning on the radio
And asking yourself “Who lives that kind of life?”
Cause I don’t
I need an anthem, I need a song that I can sing
So raise your glass if your life is crazy
Crazy normal

Last night was crazy, yeah we tore it up again
Kicked off our shoes and went to bed by 9pm
We were balling and Netflix
We turned it up to ten
Last night was crazy

I threw my hands up in the air
At that detective show we watch
You drank red wind and I had Britta on the rocks
We made some pasta with our favorite kind of sauce
Last night was crazy, yeah

One, two, yeah we’re living fast and free
Here on our favorite street
So raise a glass with me, oh
You know we’re going hard
And that we’re living large
Right here in out back yard, oh
This life is crazy
This life is crazy

We got off work and met at Bed, Bath and Beyond
You looked at curtains, I bought a birthday card for mom
We wanted tacos, but the taco truck was gone
Last night was crazy, yeah

Then Saturday, slept til 8:30
And felt so reenergized
My car was dirty so I washed it in the drive
We’ve got dinner reservation with our friends later tonight
And it might get crazy
We probably won’t get crazy
Unless you guys want appetizers (apps for everyone)

We’re living fast and free
Here on our favorite street
So raise a glass with me, oh
You know we’re going hard
And that we’re living hard
Right here in our backyard, oh
This life is crazy
This life is crazy

I don’t know where all these party people at
You’ve gotta have a job and get some sleep, you do the math
And someone’s gotta pay for all those bottle service tabs
And that sounds crazy

And if you’re living fast and free
Here on your favorite street
Then raise your glass with me, oh
And if you're going hard
If this is living large, and you know who you are

Yeah, we’re living fast and free
Here on our favorite street
So raise your glass with me, oh
You know we’re going hard
And that we’re living large
Right here in our backyard, oh
This life is crazy
This life is crazy
This life is crazy
This life is crazy

Favorite Song

1, 2

Well call me crazy or you can call me anytime you want
Or call me maybe cuz I kinda love that song
Be my Madonna or Steven Tyler in my dreams
Cuz when I'm with you yea, well I don't wanna miss a thing

I can't help but turnin you up
And I can't seem to be gettin enough well
Time after time I hit rewind

When I'm woe you turn me on just like
The radio with every single note
I'm wild and young and free and loud sayin
Don't stop and leave your windows down
Well I can't help but sing along
Cuz you feel like my favorite song yeah
You feel like my favorite song

You could be my all star just like smash mouth
Said you were circus summer maybe 1994 (99)
Be john Bon jovi or cool like Johnny Cash used to
Living on a prayer singing the fulsome prison blues

I can't help but turnin you up
And I can't seem to be gettin enough well
Time after time I hit rewind

When I'm woe you turn me on just like
The radio with every single note
I'm wild and young and free and loud sayin
Don't stop and leave your windows down
Well I can't help but sing along
Cuz you feel like my favorite song yeah
You feel like my favorite song

Oh and you keep spinning round in my head
And when it's over play it again and again
And I know ever leave and oh my heart
Cuz you feel just like my favorite song

Ooh turn me on just like the radio
With every single note
I'm wild and young and free and loud saying
Don't stop and leave your windows down
Well I can't help but sing along
Cuz you feel like my favorite song yeah
You feel like my favorite song
You feel like my favorite song

Fear

Spent ten years on this pavement
And I finally caught a dream
If I'm honest it's a terrifying thing
Cause' I feel crazy taking pictures,
Hear a thousand people scream,
This is a lot for an Oklahoma kid like me

Chase me down outside of Georgia
I was sure that I was done
Something in me would not turn around and run

I heard the lord in California
I remember who I was and I learned to dance
With the fear that I'd been running from

I've been scared to death of failing
Scared that I'd look like a fool
And I'd rather quit than risk that I could lose
Now I'm not proud of that position
But it's the hand that I've been dealt
And as far as I'm concerned that hand can go to hell

Chase me down outside of Georgia
I was sure that I was done
Something in me would not turn around and run
Heard the lord in California
I remember who I was and I learned to dance
With the fear that I'd been running from oh oh yeah

No I won't run away oh oh oh oh [x2]
No I am not afraid oh oh oh oh [x2]

I was down outside of Georgia so sure that I was done
But something in me would not turn around and run

Heard the lord in California
And I remember who I was and I learned to dance
With the fear that I'd been running from
Learned to dance with the fear that I'd been running from
